Health is Wealth

A popular saying goes that when wealth is lost, nothing is lost. When health is lost, all is lost! When you are ill, you become a burden, not only to yourself but also to your family. Worse when you become a burden to society.

This is frightening especially when it occurs while you are still young. Whatever is your ambition, you will never achieve it if you are not in good health most of the time. Your life will become barren, like an unproductive lahar-covered land that will burn your mustard seed before it can germinate. If you are sickly, the harsh elements of nature will toss you around and you will never get whatever you desire. This is how unproductive your life will be if you have a failing health most of the time.

You will also become a laughing stock, because it is a universal rule that people always go for the winner and not for the loser. Other people may express sympathy for you. When they learn that your failing health was caused by your own self-abuses and carelessness, the same sympathy will turn into derision. When you are gone, they will feel a sense of relief.

Health is not only physical. It also involves the mental, social and spiritual faculties of a person. We have to balance these aspects in order that we may be able to achieve healthful living.

When we go out with friends and mingle with them our social aspect is developed. In school, when we read books and other reading materials our mental aspect and reasoning powers become healthy. Our spiritual aspect is also developed by going to church, and to stay physically fit we must have regular exercise and some recreation.
